Story

My sister-in-law, Josie Bounds, is aiming to complete The Camino Francés this Autumn in memory of Luke and Josie's late father Bert and to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance who flew Luke to Addenbrookes on the night Luke died. The EEAA provide an essential emergency service, all of which is funded from charitable donations. Josie says: "The ancient pilgrim path known as The Camino Francés or The way of St James is the path I’ll be following for 5 weeks. Starting my pilgrimage in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on October 1st and God willing I’ll be walking into Santiago de Compostela on November 5th. Like the Proclaimers song I’ll literally be walking 500 miles. When I told my family and friends that I was thinking of spending the whole month of October and first week of November alone in Spain to walk the 500-mile long Camino de Frances I received a variety of reactions. Is it dangerous for a lone woman walker? You can’t possibly walk alone! Are you mad! Those who know me really well know I am indeed mad! And when I set myself a challenge I see it through! Making this commitment has given me a better appreciation about the spirit of a Camino, it’s almost like a calling appreciating the “good old days”. While the Camino provides a great way to disconnect from daily stress, it allows pilgrims to walk out their faith, giving the weary traveller an authentic unique experience, and I’m hoping the Camino will be fun too! I’m walking this pilgrimage in memory of Bert and Luke. Our lovely Dad Bert, sadly passed away a couple of years ago and Luke our 14 year old nephew was tragically killed in a sporting incident 4 years ago. I’m raising money for charity whilst embracing the simple pleasures of life as I put one foot in front of the other, eat, sleep, and repeat. Please 🙏🏻 give generously. Buen Camino"
